Budget & Costs

This page is designed to help you plan your own budget for the trip. The figures below are indicative estimates and will vary depending on your choices (vehicle, sharing, accommodation style, etc.).

Accommodation

Budget hotel: typically £60 – £100 per night (per room), depending on the town we are staying in. If you share, this can reduce to £30 – £50 per person.

Mid‑range hotel: typically £100 – £130 per night (per room). If you share, this can reduce to £50 – £65 per person.

Airbnb: a 2‑bedroom apartment might cost £60 – £100 per night. This can be a good option if you are sharing.

Fuel

Fuel is highly dependent on your car and driving style. As a rough guide, for a car averaging:

• ~25 MPG: estimated fuel cost for the trip is around £550 – £600 per car
• ~35 MPG: estimated fuel cost for the trip is around £400 – £450 per car

If you are sharing a car, you can split fuel costs between occupants.

Ferry / Channel Tunnel

We will negotiate ferry / tunnel costs once we have a clearer idea of numbers. A realistic estimate is £50 – £100 each way (so £100 – £200 round trip per car).

Car registration

The registration fee is £100 per car. If you have multiple people in the car, you can split this between occupants.

Charity donation

The minimum charity donation is £250 per person. This can be donated personally, but can also be raised via fundraising.

Car costs

You can:

• Use a car you already own (no additional purchase cost), or
• Buy a car jointly, share the cost, and sell it after the trip. Any resale value will help offset the initial purchase price.

Other personal costs

Depending on your own circumstances, you may also want to budget for:

• Travel insurance
• European car insurance / Green Card (if required)
• European breakdown cover
• Food & drink (we usually meet in the evenings, but attendance is optional)
• Personal spending money

Note: we will avoid toll roads to keep costs down.
